Once the Elizabeth line is open there will be three ticket halls in the Square Mile, two serving Liverpool Street station and one serving Farringdon station. The City is working with Crossrail Ltd to implement highway and public realm improvements in the vicinity of the ticket halls in time for the opening of the line.

We aim to:

  • enhance safety for pedestrians and cyclists
  • improve pedestrian routes and connections
  • create new public spaces

We also hope to implement additional schemes after the Elizabeth line has opened to improve the wider areas around the stations.

Farringdon station

Farringdon station will be accessible via a new ticket hall on Long Lane, adjacent to Smithfield Market. In Long Lane the City has widened pavements, improved crossing points and resurfaced the carriageways and footways. Further improvements will be made after the entrance has opened. There is more information about the scheme on the Farringdon - Long Lane webpage.

Liverpool Street station

At Liverpool Street, the Elizabeth line station will be linked via tunnels to the existing underground stations at both Liverpool Street and Moorgate. Highway work is taking place to improve the areas outside the two ticket halls. Further information regarding these schemes is available on the Liverpool Street - Broadgate webpage and the Liverpool Street - Moorgate webpage.
